Where Venture Capital is Actually Flowing: Physical AI and Agentic Systems

Together AI just closed an $800 million Series C. Quantum Systems closed $1.2 billion. Bespoke Labs closed $40 million. And the pattern is crystal clear: venture capital is betting on embodied AI, robotics, and agentic systems for regulated workloads.

This is not about frontier models anymore. Every VC knows GPT-5.6 and Grok 4.5 exist. They are not chasing models. They are chasing the layer above models: systems that connect digital intelligence to physical reality and to actual consequential decisions.

Together AI is building an efficiency-focused platform for fine-tuning, inference, and agentic workflows. Not a new model. A platform for what happens after you have a model. Quantum Systems is building drones and autonomy for industrial work. Physical thing. Physical risk. Physical revenue.

The meta-pattern is that capital flows to where decision-making matters. A chatbot that makes a mistake is a customer service problem. A robot arm that makes a mistake in a manufacturing line costs real money. An AI agent making financial decisions or legal decisions carries real liability. That is where governance is tight, where compliance matters, where clients pay a premium.

The second pattern is that capital is flowing away from the frontier model race and toward the applications layer. That does not mean OpenAI and Anthropic are not still getting funded. They are. But the exciting venture capital moves right now are the ones that take models off the shelf and build something that actually makes money or solves a concrete problem at scale.

This is how AI goes from laboratory to enterprise. Not through more models. Through infrastructure that lets people build and deploy and run agentic systems safely. The labs can ship GPT-5.6 and Grok 4.5 all they want. But venture capital owns the layer that turns those models into revenue.
