Google’s AI Just Quietly Fixed Something Nobody Else Could

AlphaEvolve is not new. Google DeepMind showed it off a while ago. But the new part is what it is doing now, out in the world, where it actually matters.

This coding agent-this thing that writes and rewrites algorithms-started as a research project. Now it is in production. It is making real saves.

Start with the DNA part. Researchers use a tool called DeepConsensus to catch errors when they are sequencing genes. AlphaEvolve made it 30 percent better at spotting mistakes. That is not some marginal improvement. That is a real dent in error rates that cost money, time, and occasionally gets people killed when diagnoses go wrong.

Then there is quantum circuits. Building quantum computers is hard enough. Making them accurate is harder. AlphaEvolve helped design circuits that run with 10 times less error than what humans were doing by hand.

And the kicker: at Google’s data centers, the algorithm AlphaEvolve designed for scheduling has been running for over a year. Every day, it recovers 0.7 percent of Google’s worldwide compute capacity. That sounds small until you do the math. Google runs a lot of compute.

What I like about this is that it is not hype. It is not a benchmark. It is not a lab claim. It is a tool doing actual work, solving real problems, at actual scale.

This is what deployed AI looks like. Not the version that talks back to you. The version that quietly improves the infrastructure everyone depends on.
