Microsoft did something practical this week: launched a whole new operating business called Frontier Company, backed by $2.5 billion and staffed with 6,000 engineers and industry experts.
The point is narrow and smart. Frontier Company exists to take the AI tools Microsoft already has-Copilot, their infrastructure, their partnerships-and make them actually work at scale inside enterprises.
This matters because having the best model isn’t the same as making it useful. Deploying AI into a sprawling organization is messy. There are legacy systems, security requirements, change management, training. Someone has to own that problem end-to-end.
Microsoft is betting that execution on deployment is now a competitive advantage. Build the tools, then build a team that actually gets them working. That’s a different game than the model-vs-model race everyone talks about.
