Databricks Just Raised $5B at a $190B Valuation

Databricks wanted to raise a billion dollars. Investors wanted to hand them fifteen billion. They landed in the middle and closed a $5 billion round that puts the company at a $190 billion valuation.

Half a year ago Databricks was valued at $134 billion. That’s a jump of $56 billion in roughly six months, and it happened while the company was already profitable enough not to need the cash that badly. Investors weren’t rescuing anything here. They were fighting to get a seat at the table. That kind of jump would raise eyebrows in most industries, but right now it barely registers as unusual.

CEO Ali Ghodsi says the demand is coming from a very specific place, companies that are actually deploying AI agents now, not just testing them, and running headfirst into the cost of running all that inference at scale. Databricks sells the tools that help a business keep that spending under control, plus a database built specifically for AI agents called Lakebase, which has already crossed $100 million in yearly revenue on its own.

The bigger number underneath all of this is Databricks’ total revenue run rate, which just crossed $7 billion, up more than 80 percent from a year ago. That is not hype money chasing a story. That is a company selling something enterprises are actually paying for every single month.

What strikes me about this round is who’s in it. Blackstone, Goldman Sachs, T. Rowe Price, the kind of investors who do not throw money at things just because they’re trendy. When that crowd shows up for an AI infrastructure company at this size, it tells you enterprise AI spending is not slowing down anytime soon. If anything, it’s just getting started.
