Anthropic just added a new ask inside Claude’s voice feature. When you talk to Claude out loud, a prompt now pops up asking if you want to let Anthropic use that voice data to help train future models.
It is off by default. You have to actively tap allow for it to do anything, and it sits separate from the toggle that already covers your regular text chats and coding sessions. You can also go into privacy settings later and delete anything you already shared, any time you want.
Voice data is a different animal than text on a screen. It carries tone, pacing, maybe even something about how you are feeling that day that a typed sentence never gives away. Companies have gotten burned before for treating audio like it is just another form you clicked through without reading.
Anthropic choosing opt-in instead of opt-out here is the detail worth noticing. Plenty of companies bury a toggle three menus deep in settings and call that consent. This one asks you directly, in the moment, right when it actually matters, before anything gets used.
Is it a little annoying to get a popup mid conversation? Sure, a bit. But I would rather get asked up front than find out a year later that my late night voice chats with an AI were quietly training the next model without me ever seeing a checkbox for it.
Good products get smarter by learning from real use, and that part of this is genuinely exciting to me. Claude’s voice mode has gotten noticeably better over the past year, and data like this is probably part of why. The trick is doing it in a way people can actually trust, and this time it looks like they tried to get that right.
