Alibaba previewed Qwen 3.8 Max on July 19, a sparse Mixture-of-Experts model with 2.4 trillion parameters, video understanding, a million-token context window, and a claim: it ranks second only to Fable 5.

We have watched open-weight models catch up in capability for two years. We have watched the gap narrow.
