Adobe just handed everyone a recording studio for free, and I do not think people have clocked what that actually means yet.
As of August 20, Firefly’s three audio tools are open to anyone with the app. Generate Music, Generate Speech, Generate Sound Effects. You type what you want, a soundtrack that matches your video’s length and mood, a voiceover with a specific tone, a sound effect timed to the action on screen, and it just makes it. All of it fully licensed for commercial use. No separate music license, no dodgy royalty free folder from ten years ago, no worrying whether that track will get your video flagged.
I keep coming back to who this actually helps. It is not the big studios, they already had composers and sound engineers on staff. It is the person making tutorials in their spare bedroom. The small business owner trying to put together a product video without a big budget for music. The podcaster who could not afford a professional intro. Those people used to just skip the audio, or use whatever free clip they could find and hope nobody noticed.
Now they do not have to compromise. That is the story underneath the product announcement. Every time one of these tools gets good enough and cheap enough to hand to regular people, the gap between what a solo creator can make and what a funded studio can make gets a little smaller.
Is it going to put voiceover artists and stock composers out of work? Some of that, probably, and that is a real cost to real people, not something to wave away. But I would rather live in a world where more people get to make things than one where quality audio stays locked behind a budget only professionals can afford.
