Anthropic filed a confidential S-1 with the SEC this week, and the numbers landed like a brick through a window.

The company is now the AI revenue leader at approximately $47 billion annualized. And it gets better: they’re reportedly profitable. Not burning money to chase scale. Actually making money on what they sell.

This is not how venture-backed AI companies are supposed to work. You’re supposed to bleed cash for years while you chase benchmarks. But Anthropic spent the last 18 months building an enterprise that people actually want to buy from, not just play with.

The S-1 is confidential for now, which means the actual IPO timing remains unclear. But filing this early tells you something: they don’t need the money. They’re filing because they can, because the business is stable enough to go public whenever the market cooperates.

This is the other race. Not the model race. The business race. And Anthropic just won the early rounds.
