TSMC reported Q2 earnings this week. The numbers are stunning. Profit up 77 percent year over year. Revenue hit $40.2 billion, which beat analyst expectations. The company just raised its full-year capital spending forecast to $64 billion for 2026, up from the prior range of $52 to $56 billion. That is a 12-billion-dollar increase in one earnings call.
Let that land. We are talking about actual money. Concrete commitment. When a manufacturer this size, this essential, this proven says it is spending $64 billion on capital equipment in a single year, that is not speculation. That is not hope. That is not a five-year plan. That is the market showing its hand about what it believes will happen next.
Seventy to eighty percent of that $64 billion goes to advanced process technology. The stuff that builds the largest models. The stuff that runs inference at scale. The stuff that every AI company wants and that only TSMC can make at this level. Not Nvidia (they design, TSMC builds). Not Intel (they are years behind in advanced nodes). TSMC alone holds this bottleneck.
What TSMC is saying, in the clearest terms possible, is: the AI chip shortage is not temporary. We believe it will last years, not quarters. We believe demand will keep rising. We believe the bottleneck will remain where it is, at the foundry. And we are committing capital at a scale that reflects confidence in that thesis extending well beyond 2026, into 2027, 2028, and beyond.
This is what the bedrock of the next decade looks like. Not announcements or demos or flashy product launches. Not promises or vaporware. Actual capital, actual factories, actual production commitments made by people who have $40 billion in revenue and more discipline than anyone else. When you see numbers this big from a company this careful, you are watching infrastructure being built, not hype being sold.
