Google Photos Just Got a Video Remix Button

Google rolled out Video Remix in Google Photos this week, powered by Gemini Omni, and it works the way video editing should have worked five years ago.

You pick a video you shot. You tell Gemini what you want. Want the scene bathed in sunset light? Done. Want the background to be the Eiffel Tower instead of your backyard? Done. Want cinematic effects, motion blur, artistic filters? All of it, one prompt.

This is the gap between “we have a video model” and “this actually saves you hours.” Your phone does the rendering, Gemini does the reasoning, and you get back a finished clip ready to post.

The feature rolled out July 8 to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers. Not free. Not yet. But the sign that matters is that Google put this behind their premium tier and is confident enough to ship it. That confidence is usually earned.

The bigger picture: video is the medium now. Text was 2023. Images were 2024 and 2025. Video is 2026 and beyond. Every major AI lab is racing to ship video tooling that works. Google just raised its hand and said: we did. You can use it today.
